From January to July 2025, the Tasmania police conducted an operation aimed at combating the illegal use of cryptomats. During the investigation, it turned out that 15 active users of such devices became victims of scammers, having lost a total of $ 1.6 million in digital assets.

According to the police, scammers used social engineering schemes, introduced themselves to crypto officers, offered fictitious investment opportunities and persuaded the victims to transfer cryptocurrency to cryptocurrencies controlled by them.

“Cryptocurrency ATMs have become a popular tool with scammers, and we urge all residents of Tasmania to be careful,” the police said.

The senior sergeant of the Tasmansk Police Paul Turner noted that law enforcement officers cooperate with cryptor operators in Australia to introduce reinforced security measures and user verification.
