“CSI” actor reveals he left Hollywood after family tragedy

The actor Gary Sinise 69, known for his roles in the series “CSI: New York ” and in “Forrest Gump “, revealed why he decided to move away from Hollywood in 2021. In an interview with Fox News Digital, he said that he left Los Angeles to take care of his family.

“We were fighting cancer at that time”, shared Sinise, in the interview. The actor says that his wife, Moira Harris was diagnosed with breast cancer and then months later, her son, McCanna “Mac” Anthony Sinise was diagnosed with chordoma a rare cancer that affects the bones of the spine.

“My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. My son was diagnosed with this very rare cancer… two months apart. My father had just suffered a stroke, and my mother was alone, and I had to… take care of her (…) I had my hands full”, says Sinise in interview.

The tumors were identified in 2018. Harris is currently cancer-free after going into remission. The actor’s son passed away on January 5th of this year, at the age of 33.

At the time, Sinise published a post on his foundation’s website, holding a memorial for his son and giving more details about his fight against the terminal illness. “I had never heard of that. What about two cancer patients, mother and son, two months apart? A real punch in the gut”, said Gary in his text.

In the publication, the actor stated that the family’s fight against cancer lasted five and a half years and became increasingly challenging as time went by. “While our hearts ache to miss him, we are comforted to know that Mac is no longer fighting, we are inspired and moved by the way he accomplished this. He fought a difficult battle against cancer that has no cure, but he never gave up trying.”

On Fox News, Sinise said that she tried to find medication and specialized doctors to take care of her son. However, the disease became increasingly disabling.

“Trying to find medicine and doctors or anyone who could do something for him was like a full-time job. Furthermore, he became increasingly disabled by cancer as time went on. (…) He needed more and more care.”

The actor also revealed that, although the family was impacted by his son’s death, Mac was “happy at the end of his life”.

“I will say this about Mac and the album he made last year… He accomplished something he set out to do, which was record all these songs in May and make a full album of them… That gave me a lot of joy… Just seeing him enjoy those moments”, he reveals.

To fulfill his son’s wish, Sinise released his son’s posthumous album “Resurrection & Revival: Part 2” on November 10, the date on which Mac would have turned 34. The young man played drums and composed compositions.
