Cuba’s president condemned President Donald Trump’s decision to place the island back on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, calling Trump’s actions “an act of arrogance and disregard for the truth.”
“President Trump, in an act of arrogance and disregard for the truth, has just reinstated Cuba’s fraudulent designation as a state sponsor of terrorism,” wrote Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on the X app.
“This is not surprising. Its objective is to continue strengthening the cruel economic war against Cuba with the purpose of domination,” he added.
“The result of the extreme economic siege measures imposed by Trump was to cause shortages among our people and a significant increase in the migratory flow from Cuba to the United States”
Miguel Díaz-Canel
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also issued a response to the decision.
“Drunk with arrogance, President Trump decides without reason that Cuba sponsors terrorism. He knows he is LYING. Their determination is to increase punishment and economic warfare against Cuban families. This will cause damage, but it will not break the firm resolve of our people. We will win.”

Biden’s decision
The Biden administration announced on January 14 that it would remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism in January 2021, saying at the time that Havana was “providing support for acts of international terrorism by granting refuge to terrorists.”
This statement came after the country refused to extradite leaders of a Colombian guerrilla organization who were in Havana for peace talks when a deadly attack occurred in the South American nation.
Cuba was one of four nations designated as state sponsors of terrorism, along with North Korea, Iran and Syria.
Cuban officials have advocated removing their country as a state sponsor of terrorism, which triggers stringent economic sanctions in addition to more than six decades of U.S. embargo.
