Mandatory use mask in Cuba stopped after two years as the cases coronavirus remained stable and low for three weeks, with no new deaths recorded.
According to Reuters, the decision was made, among other things, because the 94% of the population of Cuba has been vaccinated against Covid-19 with at least one dose of home-made preparations.
Thus, the Minister of Health Jose Angel Portal stated that the mass vaccination program led to a “radical change” in the data regarding the spread of the virus and the risk of serious complications, which led to the decision to lift the measure of compulsory use of the mask.
Nonetheless, the mask will still be mandatory in hospitals, as well as for people with underlying diseases or infections of the respiratory tract. The Cuban Ministry of Health reports that coronavirus cases have been declining for nine consecutive weeks, with just two deaths due to Covid-19 in the last month.
According to Havana, Cuban vaccines against Covid-19 reportedly offer 90% protection against serious disease when administered in three-dose regimens, although data have not yet been verified by the World Health Organization.
