Cuba: free vaccine for those who go there on vacation

While the world comes to terms with the new variants of Covid-19, Europe is struggling to get the vaccine doses agreed, Italy relaunches with a new immunological plan, Cuba gives an announcement that it could be the solution for everyone, and also the first opportunity to return to travel: Soberana 02, one of the four vaccine candidates on the island, after the first promising results, is about to start phase three of the trial and just approved, as well as for the 11 million Cubans, it will be available free of charge for any tourist who decides to go on holiday on the island.

«We are not a multinational that considers financial profit a priority, our goal is to create health», Said Vicente Vérez, director of the Finlay Institute, manufacturer – state – of Soberana 02 (which is also working on another vaccine, Soberana 01), adding that commercial distribution “Will have a humanitarian strategy”.

The director said this on a TV program, in which he explained that three inoculations may be necessary, but that he is so confident in the success of the last phase of experimentation, that the production of the first 100 thousand doses is expected by April. After this first step, as reported by the Prensa Latina agency, Cuba is ready to produce up to 100 million doses of serum to achieve herd immunity, for tourists and all interested nations.

If all goes as planned, Cuba will soon become Covid-free and travelers will return, even to be vaccinated thus avoiding the current process of quarantine and testing (at their own expense) for all non-residents arriving on the island.

Covid has definitively brought the already precarious Cuban economy, mainly based on tourism, to its knees, which has also had to deal with Trump’s duties. If Cuba succeeds in making vaccines work, and making them available to the world, it would be a real rebirth, but also a great revenge.
