Cuba: Sends health personnel to Turkey and Syria to help after devastating earthquake

Cuba announced Friday that it will send health personnel to Turkey and Syria to help the two countries, after the devastating earthquake of Monday, which left more than 23,000 dead.

Havana pointed out that 32 doctors are preparing to depart for the Turkey. Earlier in the week, Syrian Ambassador Ghassan Obeid told Cuban state media that 27 Cuban doctors they will go to Syria.

Countries from around the world have rushed to send medical personnel and humanitarian aid to the two countries hit by the deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake.

From 1959 onwards the Cuba it sends its “white coat army” to many areas around the world where there have been natural disasters or epidemic outbreaks.

Cuban doctors were at the forefront of the fight against cholera in Haiti and Ebola in West Africa in the 2010s.
