A little more than ten years ago, in 2010, the developers from Remedy Entertainment presented the world with the genius game Alan Wake, which demonstrated truly breakthrough gameplay and an interesting storyline. And today, October 5, a remaster version with many improvements will be released on PC and immediately on two generations of consoles (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One), which will appeal to both beginners who first hear about the project with with such a name, and those who remember the original plot by heart and can repeat cut-scenes up to a phrase.
However, it is worth noting that the developers did not dare to radically alter the remaster of the cult thriller – perhaps it would have cost too much and too long, or perhaps decided to publish it that there was no point in it. As a result, the graphics in the updated version of Alan Wake, of course, look more presentable, modern and pleasant, but the authors refused to support HDR and ray tracing. More precisely, they decided to use the old engine, which did not support these technologies, and the developers simply completed the picture to the limit that was possible without replacing this very engine.
But now it is possible to play in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X), textures have been increased in resolution, and graphical effects have been improved in some places. The storyline, of course, remained untouched (it easily pulls the Oscar even without modifications), there are no additions, modes or something new either. This is, in fact, a very stingy remaster, in which, apart from a slightly improved picture and high resolution, there is nothing new. On the other hand, for fans of interesting stories who want to immerse themselves in the world of thrillers for 8-10 hours, Alan Wake Remastered is great news.
