Cultural agenda: What to do in Rio de Janeiro in April?

April arrived, and with it, holidays much awaited. starting with Easterwhich will fall in the third week of the month, ending in strapsfrom the 21st – which, by the way, will share space with the Carnivalofficially postponed to this month, in 2022.

For those who still have doubts: there will be a samba school parade at Marquês de Sapucaí (and there is still a ticket). There will also be exhibitions, concerts, festivals and plays throughout the month.

Exhibition “Van Gogh and His Contemporaries – Immersive Exhibition”

After debuting in Florence, Italy, the exhibition “Van Gogh and His Contemporaries – Immersive Exhibition” arrives at Casa França-Brasil, downtown, on April 6th. Multimedia, the show invites the public to experience the experience of observing Van Gogh’s canvases through 360° projections and an original soundtrack.

It lasts 1 hour and explores in a sensorial way the human and artistic trajectory of one of the main names in 19th century art. On site, creations by other names that are related to his work, such as Cézanne, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Soutine and Modigliani, will also be available for consideration.

Exhibition ‘Monet at the Water’s Edge’

Another multimedia experience that Cariocas will be able to enjoy in April will be the exhibition “Monet by the water“. There are 285 works by the impressionist painter projected throughout the visit. The paintings will be presented in sequences of 2D and 3D digital animations, and the show, which takes place on Olympic Boulevard, in the Port Zone of Rio, is divided into eight thematic groups: “A Train Trip”, “Fields and mills”, “Fields and mills”, “ The Sea and the Light”, “Walk through the Lake”, “Architecture of Time”, “Snowy Horizon”, “Landscapes in vert” and “Ink Flowers”.

Exhibition “Armorial Movement – ​​50 years”

Curated by Denise Mattar and consulting by Manoel Dantas Suassuna, the exhibition “Armorial Movement” celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the movement led by playwright, teacher, painter, musician and writer Ariano Suassuna. The artist proposed the union of the Northeastern roots with the erudite culture.

The armorial aesthetic is present throughout the visual identity of the show, with the multicolor of popular festivals, such as maracatu and reisado and the black and white world of cordel woodcuts.

Rio de Janeiro Samba School Parades

You parades of the Samba Schools of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have been postponed to the holiday starting April 21. At Marques de Sapucaí, in Rio, the long-awaited event will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of this month – and also on the 30th, when the traditional Champions’ Parade.

Revelers can enjoy the party in different ways, such as in bleachers, chairs and also private boxes, which offer shows and DJ performances in a kind of private party, such as the popular Nosso Camarote, N1 and Allegria.

On Friday, the 22nd, parade: Imperatriz Leopoldinense, Estação Primeira de Mangueira, Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, São Clemente, Unidos do Viradouro, Beija-Flor de Nilópolis. The following day, Paraíso do Tuiuti, Portela, Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Unidos da Tijuca, Acadêmicos do Grande Rio, Unidos de Vila Isabel dominate the catwalk.

One of the biggest romantic Soul Music bands in the world, The Manhattan’sopens the program on the 8th. On the 9th, the singer Lulu Santos will perform with his “Alô Base” tour. On the 16th, it will be the turn of the poet and sambista from Vila Isabel, Martinho da Vilawhich will make a presentation with special participation of the Blue and White school drums.

Concerts at Vivo Rio

Vivo Rio, a venue in Rio de Janeiro, will receive great attractions in April – some shows, such as Zeca Pagodinho and Maria Bethania, are already sold out. Others, however, still have entries available.

Maurício Manieri will be presented on April 3rd. Duda Beat commands the stage on the 8th, starting at 10pm. The traditional city festival “Tim Music Carioca Nights” reaches its third consecutive weekend in 2022. Iza, Capital Inicial, Paulo Ricardo and Diogo Nogueira were some of the first attractions of the emblematic event, which had its first edition in the 1980s. /Morro da Urca with one of the most beautiful views of the city. This Friday (1), the band Bahia System run the party. The opening of the show is by the Pocket Musical Cazuza.

Festival Sounds & Talks

Thinking about giving visibility to female voices within the musical art scene, the Festival Sounds & Talksin partnership with Escola de Música e Negócios, will host a series of programs at the Centro Cultural Oi Futuro, in Flamengo.

The festival will take place on Wednesdays from March 30 to May 4. During these days, starting at 6 pm, the theater will host a series of free meetings with big names who make and think about music as an instrument of impact and social transformation. Each day of the event will begin with a debate on female participation in music and will end with a concert by a singer.

The debate circuit will be led by Alessandra Baiocchi, Germana Guilhermme, Marina Mattoso, Leonardo De Marchi, Miguel Jost and Vinicius Soares. The music is by Mariana Benjamin, Juliana Maia, Luciane Dom, Laura Zennet and Mariah Marini. Zanna was responsible for opening the festival on March 30th.

Premiere of Maite Proença

This Friday (1), Maitê Proença debuts her monologue “the worst of me” on stage at Teatro Prudential, in Glória. The presentations run until the 17th. On stage, the actress revisits impactful stories from her life.

In a direct dialogue with the audience, she reflects on how her family history had an impact on her professional life, the possible blocks she developed and everything she needed to do to free herself. She also talks about the 60-year-old woman in Brazil, about machismo, misogyny and the prejudices faced.

At the Miguel Falabella Theater, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, the highlight goes to three children’s plays that will run until April 17th. Rock Brasil – Cabeça, a scenic documentary

On April 7th and 8th, rock fans will be able to rescue the memory of the youth of the 1980s at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, in downtown Rio de Janeiro. The show Head, a Scenic Documentary brings eight men on the scene with a formation that alludes to the rock band.

The play pays tribute to the iconic group Titãs and the cast performs all the songs from the album “Cabeça Dinossauro”. The show also engages in dialogue with images and references from Brazil and the world today.
