Paulo Cupertino Matias, who will go to the popular jury next Thursday (10), and is accused of killing actor Rafael Miguel and his parents João Alcisio and Miriam Selma, attacked an inmate inside the jail where he is awaiting trial . The case occurred on October 31, 2022, according to records from the Guarulhos CDP, where Cupertino is in custody.
According to testimony from detainee Wilho da Silva Brito, Cupertino invaded the bathroom where his cellmate was doing his oral hygiene, cursed him and after the cellmate crouched down, he hit him in the face but “he couldn’t tell if it was a ‘punch’ or a ‘kick’, but when he got up he felt blood on his face”.
Cupertino stated that he was attacked by Wilho, with “kicks to the ribs, while he was still lying down”, and that he retaliated with a “slap”. After the confusion, the other inmates in cell 23 separated the two, and Cupertino called the prison staff “afraid of being attacked again”.
The two were treated in the infirmary and Wilho’s medical report showed abrasions, edema and bruises on the eye. The one in Cupertino, however, only reported that the patient complained of chest pain.
After the administrative process was initiated, Cupertino’s defense stated that there was no evidence of authorship, in addition to citing other inmates who were witnesses in favor of the accused.
One of them, named Gabriel, stated that “Wilho had been provoking Cupertino for 4 days” and that “on the day of the incident, Paulo had already complained of pain in his rib”, which was the place where Wilho kicked him.

Afterwards, she decided to call Rafael’s cell phone, but the person who answered was his mother, as he had forgotten his cell phone at home. After that, the actor’s parents decided to take the phone to their son.
When they met Rafael and Isabela, they decided to also take the young woman home and take the opportunity to talk to Cupertino, in order to ask for approval of the couple’s relationship.
However, according to Isabela’s statement to the police, it was Cupertino who answered the gate, who allegedly snapped at the former actor’s parents and asked her to come in, then closing the door.
At this moment, Miriam, Rafael’s mother, asked to talk, however, Cupertino then pulled out a pistol and fired several shots at Rafael and his parents, who died at the scene.

Recently, the executioner of Rafael Miguel’s family sent a request for habeas corpus in a handwritten letter addressed to the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP), where he asked for an impartial judge, as well as “every person accused of a crime has the right to be presumed innocent”.
THE CNN had access to the document, where Cupertino condemns the media saying that the process is “contaminated” and that evidence of alleged “innocence” would not be taken into consideration by jurors during the jury trial.
