“Curb Your Enthusiasm” comedian Richard Lewis dies at 76

The comedian and actor Richard Lewis whose self-deprecating humor and acid wit on shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Anything but Love” entertained the public for decades, he died on Tuesday (27) at the age of 76.

The information was confirmed by publicist Jeff Abraham, who said, in an email sent to CNN ,that the artist passed away “peacefully” at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack.

In April 2023, Richard revealed that he was living with Parkinson's disease.

On screen, Lewis played himself for years on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” alongside his friend Larry David, at one point joking during an episode this season about which of them looked worse.

As his career blossomed with cable TV specials in the 1980s, Lewis also moved into acting roles, starring alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the sitcom “Anything but Love.”

He played Prince John in the Mel Brooks comedy film “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and branched into drama as a struggling alcoholic in the 1995 film “Drunks.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for HBO (which, like CNN is a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery), said that “Lewis’s comedic brilliance, intelligence and talent were unmatched.”

“Richard will always be a beloved member of the HBO and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' families. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and all the fans who could count on Richard to brighten their days with laughter,” the statement read.
