Alexis Haritsis, Head of Development of SYRIZA, presented topical information to the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, on the subject:
“The price of gasoline in the country is at a historically high level – Immediate measures should be taken to address the phenomenon by reducing the excise tax.”
The official Opposition MP points out:
– The price of liquid fuels seems to be stabilizing at a historically high level in the last few days in the country. According to the liquid fuel price observatory of the Ministry of Development & Investment, the average price of unleaded gasoline (95 oct.) Reached € 1,846 / l on 6/2/2022, surpassing the historical record set in our country in August 2012 (€ 1,838 / l).
– In addition, in several areas of the country the price of gasoline exceeds € 2 / l, while respectively at an extremely high level are formed diesel, unleaded gasoline (100 oct.), LPG and heating oil.
The increase in the prices of liquid fuels leads to increases in the total transport and consequently the vast majority of products and essential items.
At the same time, it reduces the competitiveness of Greek companies compared to neighboring countries, where prices are at lower levels, while it also affects tourism.
– Greece ranks 17th in the European Union in the price of unleaded gasoline before taxes. After the imposition of taxes, however, it rises to 5th place.
Despite this fact, the Government voted against an amendment tabled by the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group to reduce the excise tax on energy products. Specifically, with the amendment, we called for the reduction of the excise tax (SCT) on natural gas, gasoline, diesel and heating oil, as well as on lighting oil, at the thresholds of the EFC rates of the European Union.
– The amendment was re-submitted by SYRIZA-PS these days and was voted against again by ND.
– At the same time in the country there is a historical record of 10 years in inflation. According to the preliminary data announced by Eurostat, inflation in our country jumps to 5.5% for January 2022, now exceeding the European average.
The competent Minister is asked:
1. What action does the Government intend to take in order to provide the necessary relief to consumers, households and businesses from increases in liquid fuels to ensure social cohesion?
2. Will it immediately reduce the excise tax on natural gas, gasoline, diesel and heating oil, as well as lighting oil?
