CVM wants to boost the agricultural sector in the capital market

The Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) approved two technical cooperation agreements aimed at developing agribusiness in the capital market, one in partnership with the Pensar Agropecuária Institute (IPA) and the other with the Brazilian Institute of Agribusiness Law ( IBDA).

The entities will be with the CVM in order to strengthen the mechanisms of access of agribusiness entrepreneurs to the capital market, with the promotion of studies, research and events, according to a communiqué from the commission released the day before.

The general director of the Cecafé coffee exporters council, Marcos Matos, who participated in a meeting held in Brasília where the agreements with the CVM were approved, said this Thursday (26) that the capital market has the potential to generate approximately BRL 600 billion in credit to producers.

“A year, agriculture needs about 1 trillion reais and the capital market has room to supply approximately 600 billion reais, expanding financing options for rural producers,” he said in a note.

The CVM Superintendent of Securitization Superintendent, Bruno Gomes, stated in a separate note that there is a growing interest of small and medium-sized rural producers, as well as other links in the agribusiness chain, in accessing the capital market to finance themselves, as well as of the investors in the sector’s offerings.

“These new cooperation agreements will help in the development of increasingly inclusive policies and norms, in addition to carrying out joint educational actions with rural producers and other agents in the chain to encourage this sector’s access to new sources of financing”, said Gomes.

Based on the agreement with the IPA, the CVM intends to carry out educational actions. For this, the autarchy and the institute must hold joint training events, such as seminars and forums, and prepare studies and research for the production of educational materials.

The IPA brings together around 50 entities representing rural producers and other participants in the agribusiness chain.

The agreement with the IBDA aims, among other points, to increase the dissemination of financing options for the agribusiness chain in the capital market, and provide more education for rural entrepreneurs when they opt for this type of financing.
