“Cyber Monday” is an online discount event that takes place on the Monday following Black Friday. Companies use the date to carry out a stock clearance of merchandise that has not been sold.

According to a survey carried out by Neotrust, in partnership with Compre&Confie, revenue from Cyber Monday sales in the country in 2021 was BRL 827.4 million, 17.7% higher compared to 2020.

Where did Cyber Monday come from?

Originating in the United States, Cyber Monday can be considered a kind of extension of Black Friday. The date is used by brands that are looking for greater conversion at the event, especially through digital channels.

It was created in 2005, and aimed to encourage e-commerce sales, as Black Friday had a greater focus on physical stores.

Today, with Black Friday also happening on digital channels, the date also serves as a kind of sale of products that were not sold, offering attractive discounts to the consumer.

What is the difference between Cyber Monday and Black Friday?

Although both dates offer consumers discounts and promotions, in addition to the day they take place, the main difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the sales channel.

While the former was born with its promotional actions and offers aimed at physical stores, Cyber Monday aims to offer these lower prices in e-commerce.

In recent years, however, this logic has changed, as e-commerce has gained greater relevance among the public, especially on dates such as Black Friday.

A survey by the Brazilian Association of Electronic Commerce (ABComm) projects that, in 2022, Black Friday should move R$ 6.5 billion in sales in Brazilian e-commerce.
