Cybercrime in Health: everyone’s data has been compromised, says expert

In an interview with CNN, this Friday (10), the president of the Brazilian Cyber Security Association, Hiago Kim, spoke about the hacker attack against the Ministry of Health’s system. Among the consequences of the invasion, the expert mentioned the compromise in the data of all citizens who were included in the access.

For the specialist, data from millions of Brazilians can be used for scams, largely aimed at financial crimes.

“The type of crime is generally fraud in the financial system, crime against credit, applying for credit cards on behalf of people, the entire database. As it was an attack that compromised access to the server, probably all the data of all the citizens who were there were compromised”, said Kim.

The Ministry of Health website (www.saude.gov.br/) suffered a hacker attack in the early hours of Friday (10) and went offline. According to the message posted on the address, “internal data from the systems were copied and deleted”.

All portals in the folder, such as “ConecteSUS” and “Portal Covid” were also affected and are not accessible.

Hiago Kim stated that the population should start questioning about what is tested and what is safe for all owners and managers of structures, including the government.

“Ask the government about the security tests being carried out, I wanted the mechanisms that validate the system’s security, the population needs to demand and understand. Just as you walk into an online store today, you wonder if it’s safe; this must also happen with any website, including the public ones”, highlighted the specialist.
