Cybersecurity spending on critical infrastructure to exceed $ 100 billion in 2021

The pandemic has had little impact on the cost of securing critical infrastructure, with the exception of some reallocation of costs in favor of more important areas. At the same time, there was a rapid transition of a large number of employees to remote work. It continues today, posing a major challenge for critical infrastructure operators. This opinion was expressed by specialists of the analytical company ABI Research.

Operators have to keep systems and services running smoothly despite the shift to telecommuting. In these conditions, the main emphasis is on ensuring safe monitoring and remote control of the infrastructure by authorized personnel.

While security spending is significant in defense, financial services and information and communications technology, it is still lower in sectors such as energy, water and waste, while security risks are significant.

Analysts predict that spending on cybersecurity of critical infrastructure around the world will grow by $ 9 billion in the next year to reach $ 105.99 billion.

It remains to be recalled that the infrastructure required for the functioning of society and the economy is considered critical. We are talking about the generation and distribution of electricity, water supply, communications, food production, healthcare, heating, transportation, financial services, etc.
