Cyclocar airmobile is being created in Russia

Within the framework of the project of the Foundation for Advanced Research “Cyclone”, work has begun on the creation of an aeromobile with cyclic propellers “Cyclocar”. This was reported by the press service of the fund.

The estimated carrying capacity of the car is 600 kilograms, the passenger capacity is 6 people. The main executor of the project is the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

During the first stage of work, preliminary design of the vehicle and ground tests of a cyclic propulsion unit (cyclic rotor) with a diameter of 1.5 m were carried out.

The design dimensions of the Cyclocar with a carrying capacity of 600 kilograms are 6.2 x 6 meters, the maximum speed is up to 250 kilometers per hour, and the flight range is up to 500 kilometers. In addition to its compact dimensions in comparison with helicopter technology, a distinctive feature of the device is the ability to land on an inclined surface (up to 30 degrees) and “dock” to vertical surfaces.

Cyclocar will receive a sequential hybrid power plant of Russian production, which will allow it to be adapted to a specific customer. The aircraft is planned to be equipped with a power unit based on a gasoline rotary piston engine or a more powerful version of the GSU based on a turboshaft engine.

In 2020, a 60-kilogram cyclolet developed within the framework of the Cyclone project made its first flight, on which the basic principles, algorithms and control mechanisms, an automatic control system, and an aerodynamic layout were worked out. The first full-size Cyclocar prototype, equipped with an all-electric propulsion system, is scheduled to fly in 2022.
