Cyclone lost intensity, but cold will continue until Friday, says meteorologist

Cyclone Yakekan lost intensity, “it should dissipate, but it will not influence the weather”, according to meteorologist Maria Cala Sassaki, from Climatempo.

“The cold front is on the continent, with the core positioned in the South region, and reaches as far as the North region”, he said, in an interview with CNN Radio .

According to her, “the wave will continue until Friday, with temperatures lower than average. We will have the chill until the end of May and, after the weekend, with less intensity.”

This morning, for example, the country dawned with very low temperatures.

“There was a record of frost in Brasília, which is a historical fact. Cities in the Federal District recorded something around 1 degree and in São Paulo we still haven’t beaten yesterday’s record, we are between 7 and 8 degrees and a thermal sensation of 1 degree for those who are on the street.”

The meteorologist stressed that this cold wave does not mean that winter will be harsh, as “that is not how the weather behaves.”

“We should have a winter similar to last year, with some significant cold waves, since this year we have the same conditions, like La Niña, which leaves the atmosphere cold. In the winter months we should have temperatures between the average and a little below”, he added.
