Cyclone on the coasts of SP and RJ: Inmet renews alert for accumulated rain

Due to the formation of a subtropical cyclone, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) renewed a warning of danger of intense rain for the south of Rio de Janeiro, the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro and the Paraíba Valley.

The alert is valid for this Thursday (15th) and Friday (16th).

According to Inmet, there is a forecast of rain between 30 and 60 mm/h or 50 and 100 mm/day, intense winds (60-100 km/h), risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.

The areas on alert are: Sul Fluminense, Vale do Paraíba Paulista, Centro Fluminense, Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro and Norte Fluminense.

About the cyclone

According to Inmet, a subtropical cyclone will form in the high seas, around 230 km southeast of the coast of the municipality of Arraial do Cabo (RJ), moving east and then south/southwest.

Inmet highlights that the phenomenon will cause a lot of intense rain on the north coast of São Paulo to the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, with greater attention to Costa Verde, on the south coast of the state of Rio, including the municipalities of Angra dos Reis and Paraty.

The cyclone could move to the coast of Paraná in the coming days, as reported by Inmet meteorologist, Dayse Moraes. “The formation of a cyclone should favor instabilities and gain in strength, mainly between the east of Minas Gerais, north of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, also advancing towards Espírito Santo and other areas of the South region, such as the north of Paraná, which There is a chance of rain showers that may be accompanied by lightning and gusts of wind”.
