Cyclone that formed in the Southeast is expected to gain strength and advance to the South of Brazil

O Hurricane which formed in the Southeast should gain strength and advance towards the South of Brazil in the coming days. The Brazilian Navy had issued an alert last Friday (16) that the weather system was in the high seas, around 270 km from Arraial do Cabo, in Rio de Janeiro, and could cause winds of up to 75 km. /he waves of four meters in its surroundings.

On the southeast coast of Brazil, the subtropical cyclone became tropical. Now, he moves to the southern region of the country. The formation of this meteorological system is considered atypical.

The change to tropical does not mean an increase in intensity, but rather that the low pressure characteristics have changed. According to MetSul Meteorologia, the cyclone is expected to gain strength and turn into a storm.

On Friday, the Santa Catarina Civil Defense and the Rio Grande do Sul Situation Room (SEMA) reported that they were monitoring the evolution of the phenomenon.

If, in fact, the intensity increases, the storm will be named Akará, a type of fish in the Tupi language. The last named cyclone on the Brazilian coast was Yakecan, in May 2022.

The phenomenon should approach the coast of Santa Catarina between this Sunday (18) and Monday (19). According to forecasts, the system should lose strength in the open sea between Tuesday (20) and Thursday (22), when it will arrive on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul.

Despite the intensity, meteorologists point out that the winds should not cause major impacts on the continent.
