Cyclops electric car from Hyundai: the new KONA received an unusual optics and illuminated interior

Yesterday, December 19, Hyundai officially announced the second-generation KONA compact urban crossover, which will be offered to potential buyers in two versions – with an all-electric power plant and in a more classic gasoline version. Moreover, a hybrid version should appear in the future, but only in the US – there is no information about other markets yet. However, the most interesting thing here is not located in the engine compartment – it is the body that attracts the most attention, because the company’s designers decided to radically redesign the running lights and brake lights.

If you look at the first official photos of the new vehicle, it may seem that the manufacturer has abandoned the usual daytime running lights for high and low beams – in the press release images, you can see a luminous strip along the front edge of the hood and nothing more. In fact, this is a tricky trick – there really is a strip, it is LED and looks very attractive, but a little lower under it are black plastic inserts, where there are ordinary optics and, of course, fog lights. Thanks to this solution, the car looks very interesting.

At the rear of the vehicle, the design of the brake lights is exactly the same – the manufacturer uses a solid strip of illumination that runs from edge to edge through the fifth door, but, of course, no one has refused the usual turn signals and brake lights. Probably, the manufacturer could use only these two LED strips, but no one will release a car without parking lights, turn signals and brake lights, so it turns out to be a slightly strange hybrid of advanced design and outdated elements. Of the interesting things in the exterior, it is also worth noting the rims – they look quite attractive, although they may not reach mass production.

Completing the list of interesting details is the interior, which the manufacturer has completed in white (most likely, there will be other finishes) with decorative lighting on the dashboard and door cards. It’s certainly not some incredible feature, as most modern cars have backlighting, but the contrast of dark gray elements, white interior and orange lighting in the photos looks more than worthy. Of course, there is also a large display of the multimedia system, and a digital instrument panel, and seats with comfortable headrests. True, no one has yet reported the exact release date and at least approximate pricing data.
