Cynthia Lummis noted that during the recent massive Microsoft outage caused by a bug in a software update from CrowdStrike, the Bitcoin network remained unaffected by the incident, while other industries were thrown into chaos.
The travel sector, for example, was hit hard, with major US airlines American Airlines, Delta, and United having to suspend flights. Electronic systems crashed, requiring manual registration. Banks were also in trouble, with financial institutions around the world struggling to function as customers were unable to complete transactions.
Lummis noted that the Bitcoin blockchain and related cryptocurrency services continued to operate without interruption. The senator wrote the Latin phrase “Vires in Numeris,” which translates as “strength in numbers.”

In doing so, Lummis emphasized that the Bitcoin network uses complex mathematical algorithms to ensure security and stable operation even in unpredictable technical conditions. The official expressed trust in Bitcoin, not in centralized authorities.
Lummis recently proposed backing the dollar with Bitcoin to improve the country’s financial system. The Republican has also spoken out against the introduction of a digital dollar, fearing it would violate citizens’ privacy.
