Announcement regarding the content of the Reports submitted by the g.c. of UN to the Security Council for Good Services and the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out, in order to be objective, the Reports must not include subjective opinions and/or assessments of the representatives of the are not confirmed from the events.
As stated in the relevant announcement, the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs has carefully studied the content in question, while in the previous period it was explained to the representatives of the UN in Cyprus and New York that the Republic of Cyprus expected an objective and accurate record of the state of affairs in Cyprus in the last six months.
Such a thing would presuppose, among other things, that both oi Reports would be clear as to the need for commitment and compliance on the part of the two sides, as well as on the part of the GCC itself, in the efforts to restart the negotiations to resolve the Cyprus under the agreed solution framework and on the basis of the SA Resolutions UNit is noted in the announcement and it is added that:
“We would expect the GG to point out those who are trying to upgrade the separatist entity in possessions, at the same time trying to impose new achievements at the expense of Cyprus and its people and not to follow the logic of equal distances referring to a sharpening of the rhetoric on both sides, as a result of which there can be no common ground between the two sides. The Republic of Cyprus cannot be equated with the rhetoric of Mr. Ertugruloglou, Mr. Tatar and the officials of Ankara”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea underlines that the only common ground that should guide the parties and constitute the institutional framework for resolving the Cyprus issue is the agreed basis for a solution and the UN Resolutions, which the Secretary-General himself called for to be faithfully followed.
“Anything other than the agreed framework should not be encouraged or sought or recorded by representatives of the UN. It is obvious that to be objective Reports must not include subjective opinions and/or estimates of cc representatives that are not supported by the facts. Besides, the results of the recent “municipal elections” in the occupied territories, have demonstrated that the TCs do not embrace its positions Ankara regarding the two-state solution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs looks forward to the completion of the discussions for the issuance of the SA Resolution for the renewal of the mandate of the Peacekeeping Force, which is also the institutional guide for the presence and operation of UNFICYP in Cyprus,” the announcement concludes.
