Cypriot minister’s outburst: Society cannot subsidize unvaccinated to the detriment of other public benefit policies

“In 2021 we allocated 22 million euros, taxpayers’ money for rapid tests. “We have provided free vaccines for everyone to protect society,” the finance minister said in a Twitter post. Of Cyprus Konstantinos Petridis.

Mr. Petridis adds: “We respect the right to choose, but society can no longer subsidize the unvaccinated at the expense of other public benefit policies.”

A death and 277 new cases of coronavirus were announced today by the Ministry of Health of Cyprus. The number of patients is showing a significant increase, with 301 COVID-19 patients being treated, of which 86 are in serious condition. 89.85% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

As of today, the abolition of free rapid tests has been implemented, which will now apply to specific groups of the population who are unable to be vaccinated, while in the majority of them they will be performed by licensed pharmacies and laboratories. A total of 23,254 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

The total number of cases is 102,223, while the deaths are 422.
