Cyprus: 65-year-old man sentenced for animal cruelty – He abused animals in a livestock unit

As reported by the Cyprus News Agency, Haris Hatzigiasemi, press representative of the Larnaca Police Department, “according to the facts of the case, on February 3, 2018, the owner of a small livestock unit in a village area of ​​the province of Larnaca, that for the last month, an unknown person was entering the unit and abusing his animals. The unit was placed under partial surveillance by the local Police Station, however offenses continued to be committed.”

The animals were examined by an official of the Veterinary Clinic and it was found that at least two of those examined had been sexually abused. The specific act had been repeated until March 10, and after examinations and testimony obtained, suspicions were raised against a 65-year-old man from a village in the Nicosia district,” he added.

According to the press representative of the Larnaca Police Department, “the man was arrested by the Police and in his voluntary statement he admitted that from January to March 10, 2018, he abused animals in the livestock unit of the complainant. The case was registered before the District Court of Larnaca and after a hearing, the 65-year-old was sentenced today, Wednesday, to an immediate 9-month prison sentence.”
