Cyprus: Anastasiadis ready for meeting with Tatar on the issue of enclosed Famagusta

The President of Cyprus had a teleconference with the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar today Nikos Anastasiadis.

According to government spokesman Kyriakos Kousios, President Anastasiadis expressed his readiness to meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader and discuss confidence-building measures for the besieged city of Famagusta, adding that the President also expressed crossing points.

In his statements to the media, as broadcast by AMPE, Mr. Kousios stressed that “the President of the Republic had a teleconference today with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mr. Ersin Tatar, which was also attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar and the negotiators of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides, Messrs. Andreas Mavrogiannis and Ergun Olgun.

During the teleconference, the President of the Republic expressed his satisfaction for the reopening of the crossing points, as they operated before his pandemic coronavirus, and congratulated both the negotiators and the members of the bi-communal technical committee on their work and constructive contribution that led to the agreement. She also thanked Ms. Spehar for her and the UN assistance.

Further, the President of the Republic stated that is ready to meet at any time with the Turkish Cypriot leader to discuss both the confidence-building measures he has proposed concerning the besieged city of Famagusta, the airport of Tympos and the port of Famagusta, as well as the Cyprus problem in general and its solution through negotiations.

On her part, Mr. Tatar expressed his satisfaction for the reopening of the crossing points, while Ms. Spehar thanked the two leaders, the negotiators and the members of the technical committee for their cooperation with the positive result they reached “.
