Teleconferencing of MED5 (Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Italy and Spain) convened today, Monday (4/10), on the initiative of the Minister of Interior Of Cyprus, Nikos Nouri.
The aim of the teleconference was to coordinate the five Mediterranean front-line Member States for the new Immigration and Asylum Pact, in view of Home Affairs Council in Luxembourg next Friday, October 8, 2021.
The competent ministers of MED5 stressed the need for their continuation negotiations, in order to immediately reach a common system of Asylum and Immigration, as transmitted by ΑΠΕ ΜΠΕ.

The Minister of Interior of Cyprus also informed MED5 about the recent visit of the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Elvas Johansson, in Cyprus, during which the Commissioner was informed about the positions of MED5 which include:
(a) Take measures to protect the external borders of the European Union, but also to monitor the green line,
(b) Initiatives by the European Commission to conclude return agreements with safe third countries and
(c) Adopt mechanisms for efficient return procedures.
The MED5 ministers agreed like the specific positions proposed at the forthcoming Luxembourg Home Affairs Council.
