Cyprus: Meetings of representatives of the Ministry of Energy with representatives of Shell, Chevron and Total in Cairo

The 17th Session of the Executive Board of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) was chaired today by the Director General of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus (YEEB) Marios Panagidis.

The meeting took place in Cairo and is the first since Cyprus took over the presidency of the EMGF on 1 January. The meeting was attended by representatives of the EMGF Member States (Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Palestine and France), while observers from the United States, the European Union and the World Bank.

In his introductory speech, Mr. Panagidis thanked and congratulated the working groups and the EMGF Secretariat for the results of their studies on the critical issues concerning the green energy transition and the optimal development of the region’s energy resources. The Summit unanimously approved the EMGF work program for the year 2022, which included the proposals of Cyprus regarding the energy transition and which will be implemented in cooperation with the Advisory Committee of the Gas Industry Advisory Committee, which participates in the EMGF. The meeting also discussed the study of the second phase of the long-term strategy of the EMGF, as well as the staffing of the organization.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Cyprus, both the General Manager of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Panagidis, and the Director of the Hydrocarbons Service, Dr. Nikolaidis, who accompanied him, met with representatives of companies operating in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus. developments in their energy program. Specifically, Messrs. Panagidis and Nikolaidis met on the sidelines of the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) with Shell Vice President De la Rey Venter, Chevron General Manager Chris Steele and General Energies EP Cyprus BV. The Cypriot delegation also visited the Cypriot stand at the EGYPS 2022 exhibition, which is attended by companies and organizations active in the gas sector, such as the Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company, Invest Cyprus, Multimarine, Atlas Offshore, Hill International and center of excellence CMMI.
