The Metropolitan of Paphos Georgios is the new Archbishop of Nea Iustiniana and all Cyprusafter the meeting of the Holy Synod on the morning of Saturday, December 24.
During the relevant vote received 11 votes against 4 of Limassol Metropolitan Athanasioswhile there was also one abstention.
After the voting was completed, the 16 members of the Holy Synod came out and marched in procession to the old cathedral of Agios Ioannis.
Inside the cathedral, the Metropolitans and the Bishops signed the minutes of the Holy Synod. A prayer followed and then the decision of the Holy Synod on the election of the Metropolitan of Paphos Georgios to the Archbishop’s office was read in the Cathedral of Agios Ioannis.

After the prayer, the new Archbishop of Nea Justiniana and All Cyprus thanked the clergy and laity.
Afterwards, the Hierarchs went to the Synod of the Archdiocese where the new Archbishop will receive the congratulations of the clergy and laity. The elected Archbishop was accompanied by the phrase “Worthy” pronounced by those present. Present during the process is the Minister of Education, who came to the Archdiocese earlier.
The enthronement date is expected to be announced.
