The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus Natasa Pileidou had a meeting with a delegation of the Chevron consortium, led by the president of Chevron for Research and Production in the Middle East, Africa and South America, Clay Neff, today at the Ministry of Energy, in Nicosia.

At the meeting, all matters related to the cooperation of the Republic of Cyprus and Chevron regarding the sustainable and efficient development of the “Aphrodite” field in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus were discussed at length, while a formal meeting with the president of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, followed.

A joint statement by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus and Chevron Cyprus Limited (Chevron) reaffirms the cooperation of both sides, as well as the execution of new drilling within the next months. Specifically, it is pointed out that:

“The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus and Chevron reaffirm our mutually beneficial cooperation regarding the sustainable and efficient development of the “Aphrodite” field, in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic.

In this direction, the Minister of Energy, Ms. Natasa Pileidou, and the President of Chevron for Research and Production in the Middle East, Africa and South America, Mr. Clay Neff, were received today by the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Annita Dimitriou, informing her of the “Aphrodite” development work. These works include the execution of a new well in the field within the next months, in the wider context of the approved Development and Production Plan of the field.

Chevron is also in the process of optimizing the Aphrodite field development plan through potential synergies with other infrastructure in the region, recognizing the importance of the Eastern Mediterranean gas reserves. The development plan will be submitted to the Minister of Energy for approval by the end of the year.

Additionally, taking into account the current energy environment and the potential for Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean to make a significant contribution to the security of energy supply and the diversification of Europe’s energy sources, the two parties remain committed to continuing to work together in order to accelerate the timetables for the transfer of the first natural gas from “Aphrodite” to Egypt and the European markets”.
