Cyprus: On February 5 and 12, 2023, the vote to elect the next president of the country

On Sunday, February 5, 2023, the first round of elections will be held to elect the next President of the Republic of Cyprus, while on Sunday, February 12, 2023, the repeat election will be held, if there is no election from the first round.

The Ministry of the Interior of Cyprus announced that, following consultation with the political parties, relevant decisions were taken regarding the determination of the upcoming Presidential Elections of 2023, so that all interested parties know from now on the important dates regarding the holding of the elections. These dates are based on the relevant provisions of the Constitution and the relevant legislation and are as follows:

On Friday, December 23, the Minister of the Interior’s Decree for announcing the elections will be issued.

Tuesday, December 27, 2022 will be the last date for registration in the electoral roll, as well as for submitting a declaration for voting at the polling centers abroad. For this matter, a relevant bill will be submitted to the House of Representatives.

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, the nominations for the elections will be submitted.

On Sunday, February 5, 2023, the vote will be held (First round of elections).

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, the Repeat Election will be held, if there is no election from the First Round.

All citizens of the Republic aged 18 and over, who have their usual residence in Cyprus and are registered in the electoral roll, have the right to vote. For the purposes of the Presidential Elections, young people who will turn 18 by February 5, 2023, which will be determined as the date of the elections, have the right to be registered in the electoral roll. Application forms can be obtained from local District Administration Offices, Citizen Service Centers (CSCs), Citizen Centers at Cyprus Post Offices (CSCs), as well as from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry’s website , at www.moi.gov.cy. On this occasion, those Cypriot citizens who are not registered in the electoral roll, and wish to be registered, are invited to submit their relevant declarations in time.

Regarding the election centers abroad, it will be possible to submit a statement from October 3, 2022 until December 27, 2022, for those residing in countries where the Republic of Cyprus maintains a diplomatic mission. According to the provisions of the current legislation, polling centers may only operate in those cities abroad, the number of voters who will submit a declaration exceeds fifty (50).
