Cyprus: Participation of the National Guard in the International Interbranch Special Operations Exercise TAMS ‘HERAKLIS-2022’ in Egypt

The National Guard participated in the International Special Operations TAMS Exercise “HERAKLIS- 2022”, which took place in the Arab Republic of Egypt from August 19 to 26, 2022.

In addition to the host country and the Republic of Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Greece also participated with personnel and media, while the United States of America, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Bahrain participated with observers.

According to a statement from the EF, the purpose of the exercise, which was carried out at the Mohamed Naguib Military Base, was the realistic joint training and strengthening of the interoperability of the forces participating in special operations objects. The individual scenarios included operations in urban and open areas, Rapid Reaction strikes, rapid A/V assault, target designation and fire support, First Aid, hostage rescue as well as land and sea parachute drops.

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, the Day of Distinguished Visitors (DV-Day) took place, which was attended by the Deputy Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Chrysiliou, as well as representatives of the other participating countries.

The exercise is part of the network of international collaborations that the National Guard has developed with the Armed Forces of friendly countries in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Defense. It is considered to be particularly beneficial, as it provided the opportunity for National Guard personnel to train together with the EDs of other countries, thus promoting the level of interoperability, while highlighting the excellent relations between the participating states, while contributing to the consolidation of cooperation and security in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
