We are in constant contact with the Eni-Total consortium, which, remaining committed to its cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, is expected to carry out two exploratory wells in 2022, with the first scheduled to start in the coming weeks, says the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus Natasa Pileidou.
As Ms. Pileidou states in an interview given to the newspaper “I Kathimerini”, the delay observed in terms of the actions of this consortium is mainly due to the effects of the measures taken worldwide to address the Pandemic.
Regarding the results of the drilling in the Glafkos 2 target by the ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum consortium, Ms. Pileidou states that the Cypriot government is satisfied. “The consortium has collected the data it needed and is proceeding with its evaluation. Preliminary results are expected in the coming months,” he said, noting that no announcement is expected before the evaluation is completed.
Regarding the exploitation of the Aphrodite deposit, the Cypriot Minister of Energy points out that since November 2019, when the exploitation license was issued until today, there has been a significant change in data, while in the meantime there has been an acquisition of Noble Energy by Chevron .
“Given the EU’s effort to break free from Russian gas after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we are trying to expedite the decisions of the consortium so that the development of the Aphrodite field can proceed as soon as possible,” he said.
