Cyprus: The flag of the fighters of 1821 in the temples of the free areas

The flag of the Cypriots is waving in the temples of Cyprus fighters of 1821, following a decision of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus and Archbishop Chrysostom.

As mentioned in a relevant announcement of the Archdiocese, “On the initiative of His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus Mr. Chrysostomou II, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle of the Greek nation to shake off the Ottoman yoke, the Flag of the Corps of Cypriot Volunteers in the Revolution of 1821 has been reproduced.

There were many fighters from the mainland of Cyprus during the Greek revolution, offering their own lives for the freedom of Greece. In fact, the fighters from Cyprus, members of the Cyprus Holy Corps, had their own flag.

The flag consisted of a white sail on which there was a blue cross. It bore the inscription: ELINIKI-PATRIS KIPROU POINT. Its dimensions were: 1.10×1.40m.

With the instructions of His Beatitude, the flags have already started to be distributed in the temples of Nicosia to be hung on the masts or in the courtyards, while their distribution began in other Dioceses, in order to be raised in all the churches of free Cyprus “.
