Czech duo beat Bia Haddad and Danilina at Australian Open

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, from the Czech Republic, beat Bia Haddad and Anna Danilina in the final of the women’s doubles dispute at the Australian Open this Sunday (30).

In a disputed game, the Brazilian and the Kazakh team could not overcome the Tokyo gold medalists. The match ended in 2 sets to 1, in 2 hours and 42 minutes. Scores of 6/7, 6/4 and 6/4.

The Czech duo is the current leader of the WTA rankings and they are experienced, having won other Grand Slam titles in doubles.

Even so, Bia Haddad made history by being the first Brazilian tennis player to reach a Grand Slam final in the open era – a format played since 1968.

Haddad and Danilina managed to make an even game and the Brazilian was effective in the serves.

Even losing the first set, Krejcikova and Siniakova managed to apply the comeback and win the tournament in Melbourne.

The Czech duo won their first Australian Open title together.

Krejcikova said it was a pleasure to play against the Brazilian and the Kazakh team and that she hopes they will be successful in the future.

Bia Haddad thanked the Brazilians who attended and said it was a special day.

“We did our best in every game. I am very proud to be able to learn from you”, said Haddad to Danilina.

How was the historic final?

The game started off point by point.

Haddad and Danilina won the first set in the tiebreak: 7 to 3, closing the first dispute at 7/6.

The start of the second set was better for the Czech duo, who managed to open 2-0.

The Brazilian and Kazakh duo reacted, leaving the score at 3-2, but still at a disadvantage. Krejcikova and Siniakova then managed to close the set at 6/4.

The third and final set started as close as the first.

The Brazilian and Kazakhs won 2-1, but the Czech Republic duo managed to turn it to 3-2.

The game then got better for Krejcikova and Siniakova, who made it 5-2.

Haddad and Danilina reacted and left the score at 5 to 4. However, it stopped there.

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova managed to close 6-4 and win the Melbourne title.
