Czech Republic: Adam Voitech returns to the post of Minister of Health

The Czech Republic will change Minister of Health for the fourth time since the start of the pandemic of Covid-19, with the return of a former minister, also known for his participation in a television talent contest, as the Prime Minister announced today, reports APE.

Adam Voitech, a former lawyer who became famous for his participation in the Czech version “Idol” song contest, will replace Peter Arrenberger, who came under fire for his statement of assets.

“Secretary Arenberger told me he was going to resign this morning,” Prime Minister Andrei Babis told reporters earlier.

Babis said Votech, nicknamed “Ken” because of his appearance, was a “good minister” and would remain in office until the resignation of the government after the October general election.

THE Adam Voitech was Minister of Health until last September, date on which he resigned in the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, following a first wave that caused a relatively small number of deaths in the country.

The prime minister had then acknowledged that his government had made a “mistake” by easing restrictions on the coronavirus in early summer.

Then, the Adam Voitech He was replaced in September by epidemiologist Roman Primula, who was forced out of government a month later after being found violating Covid restrictions on a closed Prague restaurant.

He was followed by pediatric hematologist Jan Blatny, who remained in that position until April and was replaced by Petr Arrenberger, director of a Prague hospital.

Peter Arrenberger, in turn, was heavily criticized for failing to list much of his real estate portfolio in his asset declaration.

During the term of Jan Blatni, the Czech Republic topped the world statistics for several months in terms of the number of cases and deaths due to Covid.

The Czech Republic, an EU member state with a population of 10.7 million, has so far recorded more than 1.6 million confirmed cases and more than 30,000 deaths due to Covid-19. Restrictions have recently begun to ease, following the steady decline in the daily rate of Covid-19 cases.
