Agreement to form a new center-right coalition government in Czech republic five parties signed today, Monday (8/11), after their dynamic performance on last month’s election. The agreement is an important step towards replacing the prime minister Andrei Babis.
In particular, the parties range from the slightly Eurosceptic Citizens’ Democratic Party to the center-left Pirate Party. They are committed to reducing budget deficits, launched last year due to the pandemic, and increasing salaries and pensions.
All together these parties have secured 108 of the 200 seats of the Czech Parliament in the elections of October 8 and 9. During the election campaign, the five parties said they were united in their desire to remove Andrei Babis from the presidency. According to the APE-MPE, they accuse him of conflict of interest as founder of Agrofert, the colossus of chemicals, foodstuffs and media.
The prime ministerial candidate Petr Fiala said today that the new governing coalition must act swiftly. “We need to solve the problems affecting the people as soon as possible and lead the country out of a series of crises – health, economic and value crises,” he said at the signing ceremony of the agreement between the five parties.
According to the plans, Petr Fiala can be appointed Prime Minister by the President Milos Zeman after the resignation of the outgoing government, after the inaugural session of parliament that starts on Monday and is expected to last for several days.
