The Czech Republic will stop issuing visas to Russian citizens, the Czech Prime Minister announced today, after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“We are suspending the processing of visa applications by Russian citizens in all our diplomatic missions, except in the case of humanitarian affairs,” Petr Fiala told a news conference, announcing the closure of the Czech consulates in St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg.
At the same time, Prague is withdrawing its approval for the operation of Russian consulates in two Czech cities, Karlovy Vary and Brno.
Czech President Milos Zeman today called the Russian invasion of Ukraine an “unprovoked act of aggression”, saying “the madman must be isolated”.

Last spring, Czech authorities decided to deport several dozen Russian diplomats following revelations about explosions at an ammunition depot on Czech soil in 2014.
The Russian authorities had denied any involvement and reduced the staff of the Czech embassy in Moscow to a minimum.
Since then, the Czech Republic has been included with the United States in a “list of unfriendly countries” compiled by the Russian authorities.
