Czech Republic: Thousands of Russians protested in Prague against Putin

Thousands of protesters, mostly Russians, gathered in Prague to denounce the military attack ordered by President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine and to demand an end to the war.

About 5,000 people, according to organizers, marched through the historic center of Prague shouting “Russia without Putin”, “Freedom for Russia, peace for Ukraine” or “Putin is not Russia”.

“THE Czech republic “It hosts 40,000 Russians and until today these Russians were unknown to the Czechs,” the organizer of the mobilization, Anton Litvine, told AFP.

“We want to show that the Russians living here are against Putin, against the war, that they support Ukraine,” added Litvine, an artist and activist who has lived in Prague for 10 years.

“The Russians here are not Putin supporters, they are Europeans,” the activist said, holding a white and blue flag, as did the protesters.

The tricolor Russian flag, in white, blue and red, was reinvented for the occasion, he explained.

“We do not want this red line that symbolizes blood, that’s why we removed it. “Now, there is only the white of the snow and the blue of the sky,” he noted.

The placards held by the protesters also called on the Russians to “listen and fight the real enemy, not Ukraine.”

As the crowd marched on Wenceslas Square, protesters also called on Vladimir Putin to release all political prisoners, especially opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
