The press representative of PASOK-Movement of Change, Dimitris Manzos, speaking today to “Open” and referring to yesterday’s position of the prime minister, said “I don’t know if the prime minister convinced himself that he was ignorant, however, he proved that he is unable to manage this crisis and to guarantee the country’s institutional armor for the security of communications and individual freedoms”.
“Mr. Mitsotakis talked about an unknown head of the government, who had brought the Ministry of Internal Affairs into his office, had put the person he absolutely liked as head, had asked his close associate and nephew, Mr. Dimitriadis to supervises him and these two associates, whom he hastened to cover, did not inform him. This is what Mr. Prime Minister said. I don’t know if he convinced anyone,” noted D. Manzos and added:
“Then he told us – and this is very interesting – that it is a “legal mistake” to monitor Mr. Androulakis. If it is a legal mistake, how does he claim that he would have stopped it if he had known about it? If it is a legal mistake, why does it need the Act of Legislation Content that will change the institutional framework? Will it make the “legal more legal”? Why didn’t the prime minister have the courage to come out and say that it is not a “legal mistake”, it is an unconstitutional choice? That it is not a “slip” of the EYP. It is sliding into absolutist, parastatal methods”.
Regarding the initiatives announced by the prime minister, the PASOK-Change Movement spokesperson said “why does he not have the courage to tell the citizens that his centralized staff state has collapsed with a bang? His choice to gather the intelligence service in his office and a bunch of other agencies, he’s failed miserably and he’s the one pointing the finger at the opposition and talking about conspiracies. He’s talking about destabilizing scenarios, about unknown wars, unknown enemies, and he’s coming to defend our country’s right to institutional armor? He’s coming now , after a holiday to promise to protect our country and our individual liberties?”.
Concluding his intervention, D. Manzos emphasized that for PASOK-Movement of Change “the judicial investigation is very important. We will persist until the end institutionally and with great dignity in the search for the truth, both on a political and legal level, because it does not concern only our president, but all citizens and our democracy.”
