D. Manzos: Immigration is not a field of toxic partisan confrontation

The immigration issue “should not be a field of easy and toxic partisan confrontation”, stressed the Press Representative of PASOK-Movement of Change, Dimitris Manzos, referring to the events in Evros.

“It is very serious and affects both the level of national security and human rights. European and Greek humanitarianism is tested every day on our land and sea borders,” he added, speaking to the OPEN BEYOND television station.

He also pointed out the need for full information on issues of the highest importance such as this one, as “whenever there is a lack of information, either from the government or from the media, fake news flourishes and we have phenomena of social cannibalism not only by columnists but mainly by users of social networks at the expense of of people seeking a better life away from their countries, which are hotbeds of war or destitution and poverty”.

Dimitris Manzos reiterated the need for the government to answer how the 38 refugees found themselves on the island of Evros. “Were they promoted by the Turks? Was there a re-promotion by the Greek authorities at some point in the past? This must be resolved so that there are no shadows over the Greek authorities. Everything will be answered through parliamentary scrutiny, such as what initiatives the Greek authorities took to the rescue of these people and finally what is the role of the Turkish authorities in this case?”, he said characteristically.

Asked, then, about the issue of monitoring, the PASOK-Movement for Change Press Representative underlined that “for some in New Democracy, the issue of monitoring, such as the energy crisis and the accuracy crisis, is imported. There is a persistent effort, in by an arbitrary generalization, to cloud the picture of an existing, very serious incident which must be investigated in depth”.

He recalled the institutional path that PASOK-Movement for Change has been following since the very first day of the case, both at the level of Justice and at the level of the Parliament. “The Institutions and Transparency Committee should be formed from the very next week when the Parliament opens, so that the current and former management of the EYP as well as the ADAE and the co-competent ministers can come to the Parliament and this time the whole thing will be said the truth without fear and passion”.

He noted, in closing, that the case of Nikos Androulakis must be examined very specifically and in depth, because “in addition to being an MEP during the period in question, he was also a candidate for the leader of the third parliamentary party. It must be proven who, how, why, by what procedure and mainly what reasoning did he consider Mr. Androulakis suspicious and dangerous for national security, a spy against the country. And the second and most important thing that should not escape is the Predator chapter, which is used internationally by states and oligarchs and with which there was an attempt to trap the cell phone of the president of PASOK-Movement of Change”.
