D. Michailidou: By supporting pre-school education, we support all children and their families

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, had a meeting with the president and vice-president of the Panhellenic Federation of Associations of Private Kindergartens (POSIPS), the president of SIMMIPASE and the vice-president of PASIPS. With the support and presence of the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, I. Theodosiou, the Undersecretary discussed all the issues that concern the private nurseries.

Initially, as pointed out in a statement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Undersecretary assured the participants that next year, after tough negotiations at European level, vouchers will be given to children in kindergartens, in order to support their families and industry.

“Believing in the value and importance of pre-school education from the first year of a child’s life”, the Undersecretary stated that she is preparing the call for the allocation of the 180,000,000 aid for the creation of 50,000 new places for infants in existing and new private stations across the country, through the Recovery Fund. In the same context, as mentioned in the announcement, he agreed to consider very seriously the reduction of the age limit from 2.5 to 2 years for nurseries.

Closing the meeting, the Federation asked the Undersecretary to support the implementation of the comprehensive inventory of all private nurseries in the country and all participants thanked her for her valuable contribution to strengthening preschool education.

According to Ms. Michailidou, pre-school education is a catalyst and, “by supporting the industry that offers and serves it, we support children and their families.”
