D. Michailidou: ‘We are actively supporting the independent living of our fellow citizens with disabilities’

The most emblematic policies, actions and interventions, designed and implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for Persons with Disabilities, were mentioned by the Deputy Minister Domna Michailidou in the Special Standing Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights, in the National Assembly. In particular, the Undersecretary, during her intervention, informed the members of the Committee in detail about:

– The Personal Assistant Service, for which the Ministry secured funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund of 42 million euros for the pilot implementation, while the universal implementation of the service is funded through the NSRF 2021-2027 with a proposed budget of 320 million. . euro.

– Early Detection, which is included in the “Hive” program for the renovation of nurseries and will be implemented with resources from the Resilience and Recovery Fund.

– In the Early Intervention, the implementation of the pilot program concerns 1,450 children, with funding from the Resilience and Recovery Fund amounting to 34,392,500 million euros.

– Supported employment, which was instituted for the first time in our country, with funding through the Resilience and Recovery Fund amounting to 9,420,000 million euros.

– Semi-Autonomous Living, the pilot application of which concerns children aged 16 and over who reside in institutions and is funded with 8,076,000 euros, from the Resilience and Recovery Fund.

– Home access interventions, which will be funded with 24 million euros from the Recovery and Sustainability Fund and concern the grant of accessibility interventions for 4,000 private homes, 700 private workplaces, 300 public workplaces and 17 Social Welfare Centers.

Referring to the National Action Plan for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Domna Michailidou stressed that most of these projects, which are included there, will change the daily lives and prospects of our fellow citizens with disabilities.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, D. Michailidou, stated that: “The National Accessibility Authority has already issued an opinion on EU Directive 2019/882 in national law on the accessibility requirements of products and services, which the Ministry is handling as a matter of urgency. a continuous cooperation with the Authority and for the other actions. For us, disability is not an incapacity. “We have already started to implement them, we ensure the equal participation of our fellow citizens in society and the labor market. We improve the quality of life of both themselves and their families. We stand by everyone and everyone. We do not leave anyone behind.”
