D. Michailidou: We are examining the start of the ‘Personal Assistant’ program in Anat. Macedonia and Thrace

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, met today with the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christos Metios, and discussed the pilot operation of the Personal Assistant program in a remote area of the region.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, “this possibility is being considered on the basis of two parameters:

– The effective operation of the program, taking into account the daily conditions of a remote area.

– The level of disability rates per region in relation to the total population.

The institution of the Personal Assistant, which is part of the bill for “Strengthening Social Protection”, which was passed in September, actively responds to a constant request of decades of the disability movement. The State recognizes and actively supports the ability of people with disabilities to live independently and participate equally in society and the labor market. “This service also supports the families of people with disabilities and helps them meet their day-to-day responsibilities.”

With the pilot program, which is being implemented, 2,000 people will have access to various parts of the country. Resources, amounting to 42 million euros, have been secured for the implementation of the program, from the Recovery Fund, but also 320 million euros from the next NSRF programming period for its subsequent universal nationwide implementation.

After the meeting, Ms. Michailidou stated: “Our wish is that the pilot program of the Personal Assistant includes the outlying Greece – that is why we are considering its launch in areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Our goal is all our fellow citizens. with any mobility or mental disability to be able to shape their own daily life in whatever area they are in. With the Personal Assistant, we ensure individual freedoms by creating an accessible society. , fair and efficient “.

For his part, Mr. Metios noted: “The implementation of the pilot program of the Personal Assistant in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will be a really important contribution to the daily effort of people with disabilities in remote areas for a life of autonomy, quality and equality. “We stand by our fellow citizens who are in need and for this purpose we have close cooperation with the Deputy Minister Mrs. Michailidou, whom I thank for her interest in our region.”
