D. Papalexopoulos: Greece today is stronger, more reliable and more mature

Our country today, after ten very difficult years, is stronger, more reliable and more mature than it probably was in the past. After the economic and health crisis, confidence has returned, reforms have accelerated, industry has proven resilient and the start-up ecosystem is growing at an unprecedented rate. Despite the upheaval caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which followed the unprecedented health crisis, Greece is emerging as an attractive investment destination and a country on the verge of dynamic growth.

This, among other things, was pointed out by the President of SEV Dimitris Papalexopoulos, speaking tonight at an event held in Athens on the occasion of the working visit of a delegation of French businessmen headed by the President of the Confederation of Businesses and Industries from France (MEDEFx) De Gero Bezieux, at the invitation of BSE.

Mr. Papalexopoulos referred to the development of economic relations between the two countries, noting in particular the increase of trade exchanges by 11% in 2021 as well as the increase of French investments in Greece, which in 2021 reached 1.5 billion euros. He particularly noted the presence in our country of companies such as Vinci, Lafarge, Michelin, Imerys in industry, Ocean Winds, AKUO Energy, VALOREM in renewable sources, L ‘Oreal in cosmetics, Pierre Fabre, ANOSI-AVENTIS in medicines, AXA, Groupama in insurance, THALES, Alstom in high technology, DANONE, Delifrance, Pernod-Ricard in food, SOFITEL (hotels), etc. However, he also underlined the Greek investments in France, from companies such as VIOHALCO, Lariplast, Maillis, Coco-Mat, Yfantis, Olympus, Korres and Lavipharm.

The visit of the French companies underlines not only the long-term friendship of the two peoples but also the important opportunities that Greece presents, stressed the president of SEV.

“We look forward to the business cooperation between the two countries,” said MEDEF President Geoffroy Roux De Bezieux. Referring to the recent presidential elections, he noted that France avoided a difficult situation, while also emphasizing that on Europe Day and while we are in the country that gave birth to democracy, we see war returning to Europe and democracy receding around the world. He also pointed out that the image of companies has improved after the coronavirus “and we have to build on it”.
