The Kremlin said today it did not know if a parade would be held on May 9 in Mariupol to commemorate the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II, but added that the time would come to celebrate Victory Day there.
“It’s time to celebrate Victory Day in Mariupol,” spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told reporters today when asked about plans for May 9 in the area, which was recently occupied by Russian-backed forces.
According to the same source, Peshkov said that hostile statements against Russia were made by Poland and that Warsaw could be a “source of threat”.
Polish Environment and Climate Minister Anna Moskva said on Monday that “Poland is proud to be on Putin’s list of unfriendly countries.”
The Kremlin spokesman also said that the information that Russia was stealing grain from Ukraine was probably false.
“We have no information, it seems to be false,” Peshkov said, after a UN food official said there was evidence that Russia was transporting grain from neighboring areas it had occupied.
Finally, the Kremlin refused to say whether President Vladimir Putin had apologized to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett after Russian Foreign Minister’s claim that Adolf Hitler had Jewish roots.
Israel had spoken out against Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the comment, which he described as an “unforgivable” lie that downplayed the horror of the Nazi Holocaust.
Bennett said yesterday, Thursday, that Putin had apologized for Lavrov’s comment and that he, Bennett, had accepted his apology.
