D. Tzanakopoulos: The government does not want to ‘break’ them with energy cartels

“The Mitsotakis government has divorced from reality. The political elite of ND is in another social universe”, stressed the secretary of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, speaking on the radio station “Sto Kokkino 105.5”. “Citizens are not aware of the problems, nor are they willing to learn about them,” he said.

You are invited to comment on the statements of Ad. Georgiadis noted that citizens have reduced consumption for psychological reasons: “the government is constantly trying to convince us of another reality, it is the symptom of a political impasse.” “They believe that someone else is always to blame for everything, it is a government on the run that goes crazy, with the example of Mr. Georgiadis as a characteristic,” he said characteristically.

“The government pursues a policy of extremely limited allowance aid and at the same time leaves untouched the core of the issue: in the energy market in Greece there are phenomena of notoriety, phenomena of super profits from generating companies but also from electricity providers”, explained Dimitris Tzanakos “In this context, we have tabled the proposal for the retroactive taxation of these superprofits,” he said. “Such a proposal has no budgetary cost, instead the state will increase its revenues,” he said.

“The point is that there is no will from the government for such a taxation of the super-profits, which would enable the citizens to be given aid but in the future would also act as a disincentive for the development of cartels,” he added. “It is a political decision of the government not to take any measures at all that will create a problem for the big businessmen who are active in energy”, stressed the secretary of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.

Regarding the proposal of the official opposition to reduce the EFC in fuel, he stated: “it has a cost of 1.7 billion euros, but on the one hand it is a measure that, in all probability, will increase consumption and on the other hand this fiscal space exists once the rules of the Stability Pact have been lifted “. “Mr. Mitsotakis and his government, however, have a completely opposite political logic,” he added.

“Mr. Mitsotakis does not hide the social interests which he serves and respectively shapes his political priorities”, commented Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, referring to “persistent neoliberalism”.

Referring to the clear refusal of the government to take measures that harm the interests of the cartels in energy, he pointed out: “we have a Mitsotaki regime, the government serves businessmen, the businessmen – through the media – serve the government, it is a system that reproduces itself, but which will find the Greek people against it “. “He will face a large progressive, democratic and left-wing majority with a specific alternative political agenda,” he added.

“In the midst of a great crisis, an economic crisis, a health crisis, a crisis of precision, a great political shift is needed here and now: wage support, a ‘war’ against energy cartels. We need to open the debate on the public nature of energy networks. in the country, what strategy do we have in relation to electricity, in relation to water, what strategy do we have for our energy autonomy “, underlined Dimitris Tzanakopoulos.

Asked about the possibility of elections, he noted that “the government is in an extremely difficult situation, with its deterioration being clear and irreversible.” “We want the elections as soon as possible and we will be ready, politically and organizationally. “This government, the better for the Greek people,” he said. Commenting on the scenarios for changing the electoral law, he stressed: “such a thing would be completely paradoxical, it moves in a completely unconstitutional direction and shows the fear of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and ND”.

Finally, regarding the discussion held in view of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance conference, he underlined: “the proposal for the election of the president and the Central Committee by all party members, in combination with the statutory regulations for the use of digital media in party life, to facilitate the registration of members, to search for horizontal forms of organization within the party, are a set of proposals that attempt to identify the forms of organization that are appropriate for a party of the Left in the 21st century. “It is the duty of the Left to seek new forms of organization and citizen participation,” he concluded.
