D. Tzanakopoulos: The SYRIZA congress is a stop in the effort to defeat the Mitsotakis government

The secretary of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, spoke about a conference – a station that will launch the defeat of the Mitsotakis government and the emergence of a progressive government, speaking on the radio station “Sto Kokkino 105.5”, in view of the current 3rd party congress.

“Our conference is a milestone in the effort that SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance is currently making to bring about political change, to create a broad, democratic, progressive current in Greek society, to provide alternatives to the disastrous Mitsotakis government,” he noted. Dimitris Tzanakopoulos.

“At the same time,” he added, “the conference is part of an effort not only to see the next day but also to see in the long run, our broader political horizon and our strategic goals to change this society.”

Referring to the necessary postponement of the conference, which was originally scheduled to take place in the spring of 2020, when the first lockdown took place, he commented meaningfully: “even if this conference had taken place, we would probably need another one now.”

“The world of 2020 has nothing to do with the world of 2022. It’s not just the pandemic that brought upside down our lives, it’s the war in Ukraine, it’s the energy crisis, everything that flows into the daily lives of people with the crisis of accuracy “, pointed out Dimitris Tzanakopoulos and pointed out:” these deadlocks make urgent the need for social change, but they also make urgent the need for political change in Greece, because the current government has shown that whenever it tries to manage these crises, it usually makes them worse. ”

“For our part, we present our political program, our thoughts and strategic goals and we call on all democrats, left and progressive citizens, to co-shape the immediate program of political and social change but also the strategic horizon of SYRIZA-Progressive “Alliance”, he explained and stressed: “the conditions are now being formed for a truly massive, popular, progressive and left-wing party of the 21st century”.

“We have almost tripled our membership from 2019 onwards, but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Dimitris Tzanakopoulos.

Asked about the issue of different views within SYRIZA, he noted: “it is much better for a party to have tendencies as its component, than to operate in terms of barons such as the ND, baronies of various political fireplaces that form party dominions.” . “SYRIZA has a completely different political background, a completely different culture, a culture of dialogue and streams of ideas,” said the party secretary.

Regarding SYRIZA’s readiness for possible political developments, he pointed out: “We say that the sooner, the better. but also in the society itself, in the reactions and in the daily life of the citizens “, commented Dimitris Tzanakopoulos and added:” whenever Mr. Mitsotakis is finally forced to resort to elections, he will do it in a climate of humanitarian emergency, climate of economic , political, health failure and disaster “.

“Mr. Mitsotakis can not and does not want to change. Yesterday we saw his almost abusive attitude towards the unemployed, he actually blamed them for the fact that they are unemployed. Instead of referring to the economy or lack of investment, he used the theory of individual responsibility “to explain unemployment,” said Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, referring to a “persistently neoliberal” prime minister.

“For this very reason, he will go to the polls in a climate of strategic failure of his policy and will also suffer a strategic defeat,” he concluded.
