Tens of thousands of people are fleeing Syria’s third-largest city, Homs, amid reports that rebels are closing in, after the capture of Hama. The strikes by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham rebels on Bashar al-Assad who lost control of Aleppo last week. According to the BBC, the rebel leader told residents that “their time is coming”. Rebels shot into the air, toppled the statue of the Syrian president, set fire to his giant portrait hanging in a municipal building. “Our joy is the joy of the civilians, we continue for Damascus, God willing,” said one of the rebels.
