Former head of marketing at the Kraken exchange, Dan Held, has criticized bitcoin followers for being overly prejudiced and dismissive of other cryptocurrencies.
Dan Held is considered to be a longtime Bitcoin follower. However, he recently stated that he can no longer be called a maximalist who considers BTC the only digital asset worth investing in. Held said that he entered the world of cryptocurrencies in 2013 and remembers the time when the concept of Bitcoin was associated with the Burning Man festival, being focused on financial freedom.
However, now the behavior of bitcoin maximalists is contrary to its original philosophy – they are becoming more conservative, criticizing people for choosing other crypto assets. A softer approach to promoting bitcoin will be more productive, a cryptocurrency influencer is sure.
According to Held, he is condescending towards other cryptocurrencies and is closely following the transition of Ethereum to Proof-of-Stake (PoS). He recently stated that the transition of the network to a new algorithm will increase the pressure of environmental activists on bitcoin. However, Held believes that it is much more effective to focus on the advantages of bitcoin, and not to prove how other digital assets are bad.
“We should not demonize people for owning other cryptocurrencies. Most bitcoin maximalists do not behave like investors, but like religious fanatics, demonstrating intolerance towards people who do not want to invest money only in BTC. Imposing your opinion on people in which cryptocurrency is better to invest in, or trying to dissuade them from investing in altcoins is not the best way, even if bitcoin is really the best store of value,” Held said.
A similar position is shared by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. He believes that bitcoin maximalists are only dividing the cryptocurrency community, reducing the industry’s chances for rapid development.
