Warning to airlines about danger on flights near the Ukrainian border with Russia expressed the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
In a directive to US airlines issued on Saturday, the FAA emphasized “the escalation of regional tensions between Russia and Of Ukraine“which are likely to provoke sudden cross – border clashes, increased military activity or even war.”
Since 2014, The FAA has banned US airlines from operating in areas around the border of Ukraine with Russia, as noted by AMPE.
According to the same directive, airlines must notify the FAA at least 72 hours in advance of any possible flight to the area.
The FAA and other civil aviation services are concerned about the downing of a civilian aircraft during a war, due to possible incorrect recognition from the air defense systems of those involved in military operations.
In 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down while flying over eastern Ukraine. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a Russian-backed militant-held area during a battle with Ukrainian troops, according to international experts investigating the incident.
The downing of the plane resulted in the death of all 298 passengers, 2/3 of whom were Dutch.
